Aerynthian: Talon, Wind, and Quiet Watchers
With wings that cut through the sky and eyes that see beyond the horizon, the Aerythians are creatures of both the heavens and the earth. Graceful yet fierce, they live among towering peaks and wind-swept cliffs, bound to the sky yet never blind to the world below. Some embrace solitude, their spirits as untethered as the wind, while others form tightly knit roosts, where loyalty is as unshakable as stone. To those who look up, they are distant, unknowable—watchers from above. But beneath feather and talon, they are driven by the same desires as all others: to fly, to fight, and to carve their place in the world.
"Don’t look down." The words come with a faint chuckle, wings shifting in the breeze.
"Why? You afraid I’ll fall?"
"No." A pause. A glance back over a shoulder. "I’m afraid you’ll stop climbing."
He leans in, feathers ruffled with excitement. "Y’ever wonder why gnomes only marry in winter? Tradition! Keeps the stew from boiling over, if you know what I mean."
He leaned in, beak nearly brushing skin. "It’s been eighteen years," he whispered. "Long enough for gratitude to sour." Clawed fingers tapped once against the table. "You had your daughters. I had your silence." He straightened, shadows trailing behind him. "We both know which one of us still owes."
The wind tears through the peaks, carrying the distant roar of waves and the faint scent of smoke. The cliffs stretch skyward, sheer and unyielding, their jagged edges kissed by mist and salt. Below, the sea rages. Beyond, the land smolders. And above it all, the sky waits—vast, endless, and untamed.
Born of sky and storm, free as the wind, sharp as the talon.
