He’s already two drinks in, seated on his favorite stool—the one with extra leg support and permanent butt grooves. His tankard slams onto the counter with a thud that rattles the bar. "HA! And that’s when I said, ‘That ain’t my beard, that’s a badger!’" He roars with laughter, cheeks red, belly bouncing.

He turns toward you with the glazed delight of someone who’s forgotten his worries—but not his punchlines. "New face!" he bellows, pointing with a sausage-thick finger. "Get yer arse over here. This seat’s got room for more tales and fewer teeth."
