Pretty flowers, bad judgment, worse moonlight.

Pretty flowers, bad judgment, worse moonlight.

Those who linger here begin to notice things that are not quite present. A path bends where none existed, a familiar voice laughs from behind the flowers,...

Old grudges burn poorly beside fresh graves.

Old grudges burn poorly beside fresh graves.

Among the scorched ruins, a leader rises’not for glory, but because there is no one else left to stand. The clans are scattered, divided by blood feuds...

They call restraint weakness and rebellion survival.

Like the Bloodfang, they ride giant worgs, never horses, and they favor night raids where the worgs' noses do the scouting.

Racket Night

Teen 13+
In Grimcrag Valley the year does not end, it is driven out. On Racket Night the villages along the ravine make every sound they can at the stroke of midnight, and the echoes chase the old year up through the passes like a dog after a thief. Whatever it carried, the bad harvests, the quarrels and the cold luck, goes with it.

This year someone has cracked every bell and split every drum in the valley, and the folk who live there are frightened in a way they will not say out loud. A year that is not chased out, the old stories say, simply stays.

Thayla Bloodhorn has no patience for old stories and less for cowards who break bells in the dark. With midnight coming, she means to find the valley a racket so loud the mountains remember it. You can hunt down the strangest sounds Grimcrag hides, from howling caves to singing ice, chase whoever did the breaking, or learn why the old year might want to stay.

She stands where the wilds stop whispering and begin to bare their teeth. Born of stone, storm, root, and old grievance, she carries herself like a warning carved into living flesh. Her presence fills the air before her voice does: silver hair wild around dark horns, green eyes bright with judgment, and magic moving beneath her skin like something ancient deciding whether to wake.

She is not gentle leadership wrapped in ceremony. She is command by instinct, loyalty earned through blood and honesty, and rage sharpened until it becomes useful. Outsiders who mistake her sarcasm for cruelty miss the deeper truth: she protects fiercely, remembers deeply, and trusts slowly because soft promises have burned too much already.

Her path begins in a homeland shaped by endurance and runs toward the forest that remembers what others would rather bury. When strange golden power scars the earth and leaves life drained in its wake, she does not kneel before its shining lies. She follows the smoke, the wounded roots, and the taste of wrongness in the air, determined to learn what this new magic costs before it costs everything.

She is beautiful in the way storms are beautiful: best admired from a respectful distance unless invited closer. And if she does invite someone closer, they should feel honored, alert, and perhaps a little worried about where her hands have been.

Grimcrag Valley cuts through the Western Front in hard angles of stone, dust, and sunburned earth. Jagged foothills rise like broken teeth, ravines split the ground without warning, and narrow trails cling to slopes that seem personally offended by careless footing. Wind moves constantly through the valley, scraping grit across rock and carrying low whistles that sound almost like voices if exhaustion has already started making bad choices.

To outsiders, the valley looks barren, cruel, and nearly empty. To those raised among its crags, it is a proving ground with a memory sharper than steel. Every ledge, dry wash, hidden pass, and wind-blasted rise teaches endurance, balance, suspicion, and pride. Nothing here is soft, but softness was never the bargain.

Grimcrag matters because it turns survival into identity. It is where strength is tested by terrain before enemies ever draw close, where old grudges can echo across stone, and where belonging must be earned one harsh step at a time. The valley does not welcome weakness, but it respects those stubborn enough to keep climbing anyway.

The old year will not leave quietly. Neither will she.
