What Ravenbreath Keeps

Ravenbreath is built to collect as little personal information as reasonably possible. The site may remember small preferences, protect account access, and keep basic technical records needed to make the archive work, but it is not built around selling, trading, or exploiting visitor data.

This page explains what information may be collected, why it is used, and how visitor choices are handled. The short version is simple: Ravenbreath uses data to run the site, respect preferences, protect accounts, and keep the machinery from falling apart — not to sell people to the highest bidder.

The Data We Keep
  • Minimal Collection
  • Account Email
  • No Data Sales

What Ravenbreath Collects

Ravenbreath does not ask for much. The only contact detail we ask for when you sign up is your email address. If you buy something, the payment company asks for more at checkout, and that stays with them (see Purchases and Payments). Ravenbreath Chat also keeps what you create and play (see What You Create) and a small age record (see Age and Child Safety). That email may be used for login, account recovery, two-factor authentication, important security notices, or other account-related messages.

The site may also store basic technical information needed to operate safely, such as session details, login activity, browser or device information, IP-related security records, and server logs. These records help protect accounts, troubleshoot errors, prevent abuse, and keep the archive from being chewed on by bots, broken requests, or other internet goblins.

Ravenbreath does not sell personal data. Not now, not later, not because someone waves a shiny contract at the door. If that ever changed, this policy would need to change first, and visitors would need clear notice before anything like that happened.

Cookies and Preferences
  • UI Preferences
  • Session Cookies
  • Local Settings

Cookies and Small Site Magic

Ravenbreath uses cookies and similar local storage mainly for practical, site-specific purposes. These may include remembering interface preferences, keeping a session active, supporting login security, preserving display choices, or helping the site behave the way a visitor expects when they return. Ravenbreath Chat also uses a session cookie that remembers your age answer until you close the browser.

These cookies are not intended to build invasive advertising profiles. They are the little gears that help the site remember useful things, such as whether someone is logged in, what layout choices they prefer, or which harmless setting would be annoying to repeat every visit.

Visitors can usually disable or delete cookies through their browser settings. Doing so may cause some features to stop working correctly, especially account sessions, saved preferences, authentication flows, or other parts of the site that need a small memory to function.

How Information Is Used
  • Site Operation
  • Account Security
  • Experience Tuning

How the Information Is Used

Information collected by Ravenbreath is used to operate the site, maintain accounts, support authentication, remember preferences, improve usability, investigate errors, and protect the archive from abuse. In plain language: the data exists to keep the doors open, the lanterns lit, and the wrong things from crawling through the windows.

Account email addresses may be used for two-factor authentication, password recovery, security notices, service updates, and other messages directly related to an account or the site. Ravenbreath may eventually offer optional email updates, newsletters, announcements, or promotional messages, but that is not currently a major feature of the site.

If optional email communication is introduced, it should include a way to opt in, opt out, or otherwise manage those preferences. Essential account, security, or service messages may still be sent when needed, because sometimes the boring message is the one keeping the bridge from collapsing.

Sharing and Protection
  • Limited Sharing
  • Service Providers
  • Security Records

Who May See the Data

Ravenbreath may rely on service providers to host the site, deliver email, secure accounts, process logs, maintain backups, or provide other technical services. Those providers may handle limited information only as needed to perform their role. They are not given permission to sell Ravenbreath account data for their own purposes. They include network lookup services that turn a connection's address into an approximate location, which we use for security and to stop abuse, for example when the support form is sent. Link and Stripe, which take card payments, are described under Purchases and Payments. The AI services that write Ravenbreath Chat's stories are described under AI and Your Stories.

Information may also be disclosed when required to comply with law, respond to valid legal requests, protect the rights and safety of Ravenbreath, prevent abuse, investigate security issues, or defend against fraud, attacks, or misuse of the site.

No online service can promise perfect security, because the internet remains a haunted road full of people making questionable choices. Still, Ravenbreath aims to collect only what is needed, protect what is kept, and avoid storing unnecessary personal information just because a database had room.

AI and Your Stories
  • Quills That Answer
  • Lines Read for Safety
  • Painted Scenes

AI and Your Stories

The characters who answer you in Ravenbreath Chat are written by AI. A quill cannot answer a page it has not read, so here is exactly which words travel, and to whom.

Character replies and story work. We send the story so far to Anthropic, whose Claude models write the characters' replies. That includes the recent lines at your table, the scene and character details, and your persona's name, gender and Bio. When a character answers you, it also reads your persona's Description and Secrets. The same service decides how an adventure ends, can write the items a story hands you, and reads your persona's Bio, Description and Secrets when you change them, to check them against our rules. At a table told by a human story-teller, it reads each player's line to retell it for the others.

Safety checks. The lines you send can be checked by OpenAI's moderation service for content that breaks our rules. Some lines are read a second time by Anthropic, together with up to four earlier lines, for a closer look.

Pictures. Scene pictures are made by OpenAI's image service, or, when we switch it on, by image models run through Replicate. They are drawn from a short scene description our system writes, never from your own words. When Replicate paints a scene that includes your persona, it also receives your persona's name and the link to its avatar picture.

We do not send your email address or your account details with any of these requests. Under their terms for business customers, Anthropic and OpenAI do not use what is sent through their APIs to train their models unless the customer chooses to share it. Some pictures are made by models that Replicate runs for other companies, such as Google, and those companies' terms also apply. Each provider handles what we send under its own terms, and may keep it for a limited time to watch for misuse. We do not keep copies of these requests ourselves: only a fingerprint of each one, its size and its cost.

What You Create
  • Faces You Wear
  • Tales You Tell
  • What's in Your Pack

What You Create

Every traveler leaves tracks: the faces they wear, the tales they tell, the odd things rattling in their pack. These are the tracks you leave in Ravenbreath Chat, and who can follow them.

Personas. Other players at your table can see your persona's name, picture, gender, species, tagline and Bio. Its Description, Secrets and stats are only for you and the AI characters. Human story-tellers do not see them.

Adventures and chat history. Your adventures and their chat histories are saved with your account so you can return to them. A table can be seen by its owner, its story-teller and the players seated at it, and by Ravenbreath staff (see Staff below). It is not shown to anyone else. At a table told by AI characters, each player sees the characters' lines and their own lines. At a table told by a human story-teller, other players see a retelling of what your persona does, not your exact words. Lines from players you have blocked are hidden from you.

Pictures you upload. Avatar pictures are stored on our image server. Their web addresses are not published, but anyone who has or guesses an address can open the picture. When you delete a persona, or your account, its avatar pictures are deleted.

Your backpack. Your items and coins, and their history, are kept with your account, and only you, and Ravenbreath staff, can see them.

Staff. Ravenbreath staff can read any table's full history, including lines you have deleted, along with personas, reports and safety flags. They use it to moderate, look into reports and give support.

Age and Child Safety
  • No Under-13 Accounts
  • Month and Year Only
  • 16+ Confirmation

Age and Child Safety

Ravenbreath Chat is not for children under 13. When you sign up, we ask for your date of birth once.

If you are under 13, we do not create an account, and we do not keep your email address or anything else you entered. The only thing recorded is an anonymous daily count of under-13 answers, which identifies no one. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 13, we close it and delete its information.

We store only your birth month and year, never your exact birthday, and the date you answered. We use them only to work out which content ratings your account may use. You cannot change your answer yourself. Ravenbreath staff may correct it, and each correction is recorded with its reason.

Before Mature 16+ stories can be turned on, you confirm that you are 16 or older. We keep that confirmation with the date and time you gave it and network connection information, as a record that you confirmed it. We never use it to locate you.

Ravenbreath staff and the service providers that host and protect the site can see these age records, only as part of that work. They are never shown to other players. We keep them for as long as your account exists and delete them when you delete your account. Copies in our backups are removed when those backups expire.

The rules for which stories each age can see, and when Mature 16+ becomes available, are in our legal terms.

Purchases and Payments
  • Link Takes the Card
  • Order Records Only
  • Never Sold

Purchases and Payments

If you buy a plan or Raven Coins on the web, the payment is handled by Link, Stripe's seller-of-record service, as part of Stripe's Managed Payments. Link asks you for your card details, your name, your billing address and your email at checkout, and it sends your receipt. Those details go to Link and Stripe, and they handle them under their own privacy policy as the seller. Link may offer you a Link account at checkout. If you ask Link to delete your data, it also cancels any Managed Payments subscription you have. We never see or store your card number. When a purchase completes, Link's notice to us includes your email, your name and your billing address. We read only the billing country, to check the purchase is from the United States, and we store none of those three. If you buy through the Apple App Store or Google Play, that store takes the payment and keeps your payment details under its own policy.

What we keep: the Stripe customer ID that links your account to your payments; a record of each order (what you bought, the amount, the date, and whether it was refunded or disputed); the record of your plan (which plan, whether it renews, and when the current period ends); the history of the Raven Coins in your account; and a money record of each payment, refund and dispute (the amount, the currency, the payment company's fee, the date, whether it was a charge, a refund or a dispute, and what you bought, tied to your account, with no card data and no tax figure). We do not keep your card number, your billing address, or your card's expiry date.

Why: to give you what you paid for, to handle refunds and disputes, and to keep our accounts as accounting and tax law require. We do not sell this information.

How long: purchase records stay after you delete your account where tax or dispute law requires it (see When You Delete Your Account). We have not set an end date for them yet.

For the terms of a purchase, see Purchases and Raven Coins in our Terms.

When You Delete Your Account

Leaving should be simple, and you deserve to know exactly what the door takes with it and what it leaves behind.

You can delete your account yourself in your account settings. You type DELETE to confirm, and if you signed in more than 15 minutes ago, you sign in again first.

Removed at once: your age records, the network, location and browser details on your profile, and your status. At tables you shared with others, your name becomes "A departed traveler."

Plans: a plan bought on our website is cancelled when you delete your account, so it is not billed again. A plan bought through Apple or Google is not cancelled; cancel it in that store.

Taken out of use: your personas and what characters remember about you stop appearing anywhere in Ravenbreath. Their saved text is not erased, but their avatar pictures are deleted.

Kept, and why: your email address and a record that the account was closed, to handle abuse and disputes; your adventures and the lines you wrote in them, because they are part of stories other players shared (others see them under "A departed traveler"); your items, coin and purchase history, for our accounts and as accounting law requires; reports, safety records and staff actions, to keep players safe; sign-in records, which include your email, network information and country, for security; and our records of email sent to you and of AI use, to run and pay for the service. None of these has a set end date yet.

Avatar pictures are deleted, in every size, when you delete your account or the persona they belong to.

Page visit records are deleted after 180 days, and records of actions on the site after 365 days. Nothing else expires on its own today. Copies in our backups are removed when those backups expire.

Your Choices and Updates

Visitors may choose not to create an account. To see, correct or delete the information we hold about you, write to support@ravenbreath.com from your account's email address, or use the support form and choose Privacy or Data Question. We check that the request comes from the account holder before acting on it, and we reply within 30 days (if we need longer, we will tell you why). You can also delete your account yourself (see When You Delete Your Account). There is no download button for your data yet; ask, and we will send you a copy of your information in a common file format. It leaves out other people's information, such as other players' lines.

Some information may need to be retained for security, legal, backup, abuse-prevention, or site-operation reasons, but Ravenbreath does not aim to keep personal information longer than it reasonably needs to.

Browser settings may also allow visitors to delete cookies, block cookies, or limit local storage. Those choices may affect saved preferences, active sessions, login flows, or other features that rely on small pieces of remembered information.

This privacy policy may be updated as Ravenbreath grows, adds features, changes providers, or sharpens the machinery behind the curtain. When meaningful changes are made, the policy should be updated here with a new effective date. Last updated: October 31, 2026.
