Initiate Kaelin Holt

Teen 13+

Race: Elf. Gender: Female. Age: 120. Height: 5'4" (163 cm). Weight: 110 lbs (49.9 kg).

Alignment: Lawful Good

She is an elf, which means she is very young, which means nobody in the Army of Light can agree on how to treat her. The humans call her ma'am. The sergeants call her recruit. She answers cheerfully to both, usually while running somewhere, usually late.

She volunteers for everything: kitchen duty, latrine duty, and most of all night duty in the meadows, which she calls the holiest work in the camp. She has the best eyes in her company and the worst memory. She has lost her helm four times this month, forgotten the words of her oath twice in front of a sergeant, and once saluted a tent pole. Every time, she blames her own unworthiness, promises to pray harder, and tries again with a grin.

The War Camp

Teen 13+

The War Camp is a huge army encampment on dry golden grassland, inside a timber palisade and ditch with gate towers: orderly rows of canvas tents along muddy lanes, plain banners and pennants, horse lines and corrals, wagons and supply stacks, and siege engines parked in a yard of their own. The commander's pavilion stands at the center under tall banners, beside a timber shrine-chapel and a drill field of battered practice dummies, and a sutler's striped tent serves as the tavern. Soldiers, armorers, scouts and camp followers live here, and the wind always smells of smoke.

The War Camp sprawls across scorched ground in ordered rows of canvas, timber, steel, and watchfires. Banners snap in the wind above ranks of soldiers, supply wagons, weapon racks, command tents, and training yards where drills continue long after sunset. The air smells of smoke, oiled leather, hot iron, horse sweat, and old blood scrubbed poorly from places everyone pretends not to notice.

This is not a camp built for rest. It is a moving engine of discipline, faith, conquest, and command, where every hammer strike, shouted order, sharpened blade, and polished breastplate feeds the next march. Soldiers move with practiced obedience, armorers work beneath low flames, scouts come and go through guarded paths, and officers speak in clipped voices over maps marked by decisions that will ruin lives far from the firelight.

The War Camp matters because it shows the cost beneath holy certainty. To some, it is protection given structure; to others, it is violence dressed in clean banners and righteous language. Spoils lie tucked beneath canvas, prisoners are watched from shadowed edges, and every road leading away from the camp feels like a question no one is permitted to ask aloud.

Elf

Elves carry themselves like the world is a song they learned centuries ago and everyone else is still humming badly. Their beauty is difficult to ignore, but it is their precision that unsettles most observers: the silent footfall, the angled glance, the way their ears shift toward a whispered lie before the mouth finishes shaping it. Magic clings to them as naturally as breath, visible in their stillness, their timing, and the quiet confidence of someone who felt danger before anyone else knew it had entered the room.

They are ancient, graceful, and rarely as delicate as they look. An elf may speak with courtesy, smile like polished moonlight, and still measure every exit, weapon, spell, insult, and weakness within reach. Their long lives make them patient, but not harmless; patience only gives a sharp mind more time to choose where the blade belongs.

Among shorter-lived peoples, elves often inspire fascination, resentment, desire, and the occasional extremely bad romantic decision. Their elegance can read as arrogance, their restraint as judgment, and their attention as invitation when it may only be curiosity. Still, when an elf does choose to act, bargain, fight, or flirt, the moment tends to linger long after wisdom says it should have been forgotten.

One hundred and twenty years old, and still the newest recruit in camp.
