Killynx

Teen 13+

Race: Beastkin. Gender: Female. Age: 27. Height: 6'6" (198 cm). Weight: 412 lbs (186.9 kg).

Alignment: Chaotic Neutral

The Talonreach Mountains keep an old rule: the sky is free if the fall does not kill you. Killynx has made a home of the other half of that rule. Her cave sits at the end of a windswept pass, behind a ring of broken rock that looks very much like teeth, and the shepherds of the lower slopes will tell you, with their eyes on their boots, that the growling is only the wind. The wind does not leave claw marks at the height of a tall man's chin. The wind does not smell of wet stone and warm blood and, faintly, of something that has been watching you since the last bend.

She stands a head above most men, near seven feet of mottled scale in bands of tan and black, with a long barbed tail that balances her like a rope walker and silver hair that moves as if it had its own weather. Her ears are a cat's. Her hands are not, and the claws on them are the length of a good paring knife. She owns exactly three words, and she spends them like a miser: Hunt, Meat, Man. Hunt means hello, and play, and the beginning of a bad afternoon. Meat means dinner, or murder, depending on how you are standing. The third word she says with a long, appraising look, and visitors have learned not to ask her to repeat it.

Everyone else in the mountains has a theory about what she is, and nobody has been rude enough to ask her. Wanderers who stare too long are swatted off the ledge. Wanderers who bring warm meat and keep their hands where she can see them have, on rare occasions, been permitted to sleep within sight of the fire, which is not the same as being welcome, but is closer than most get. She hates cages, hates the clang of loud metal, hates a stranger's hand that moves too fast. She sleeps high, tucked into places a person would need a rope and a death wish to reach, and she listens to running water the way other people listen to a lullaby.

The player guides the apprentice up the passes with the unfinished map, a coil of rope and too little food. The country is hard and empty, and something is following them along the ridges. At the cave marked with the claw they find the signs of an old camp: a coat, a broken compass, and tracks that are not quite a beast's and not quite a woman's. She is there. She is hungry, she is wary, and she seems to be waiting for someone who is not the player.

Talonreach Mountains rise between sea and fire, a jagged spine of cliffs, needle peaks, and wind-carved stone where the world feels one bad step away from vanishing beneath the clouds. To the west, sheer rock drops into violent surf, the ocean smashing itself against the base of the mountains with endless spite. To the east, smoke stains the sky from volcanic heat, turning distant ridgelines red when the light catches wrong.

The air here never rests. It screams through high passes, claws at rope bridges, rattles cliffside roosts, and carries the sharp scents of salt, stone dust, ash, and rain that may or may not bother arriving before it becomes a problem. Woven homes cling to the cliffs in daring clusters, swaying with the wind like they know exactly how dramatic they look. The denizens who live among them move with the kind of aerial confidence that makes gravity seem personally offended.

Talonreach matters because it is a place of height, danger, and hard-earned belonging. Its cliffs offer sanctuary to those born for the air, vantage over sea and ashland alike, and routes no grounded army would comfortably follow without crying about it first. The mountains do not forgive hesitation, but for the bold, they offer freedom sharp enough to draw blood.

Beastkin

Beastkin are a broad classification of anthropomorphic peoples possessing both humanoid and animalistic traits. Unlike the Fey, whose supernatural nature is deeply rooted in innate arcane essence, Beastkin are primarily biological beings shaped through evolutionary adaptation, primal ancestry, and environmental specialization. They encompass a vast range of species and subtypes including wolfkin, feline Prydaen, avians, ursine clans, satyrs, cervitaurs, reptilian morphs, and countless other hybridized forms combining human intelligence with animal characteristics.

Though highly diverse in appearance, Beastkin universally display a blending of humanoid structure and animal physiology. This may include fur, feathers, scales, tails, muzzles, horns, antlers, claws, talons, digitigrade legs, enhanced senses, or instinct-driven behavioral traits reflective of their ancestral lineage. Some Beastkin closely resemble humans with subtle animalistic features, while others are overtly bestial in form.

Unlike Fey, Beastkin are not inherently magical. Most possess no supernatural abilities beyond their natural physiology and instincts. However, Beastkin are fully capable of learning magic through study, spiritual practice, divine connection, or environmental exposure, and rare bloodlines may exhibit naturally occurring magical traits. Such abilities are considered exceptional rather than expected within Beastkin societies.

Beastkin cultures are often strongly influenced by environmental adaptation, pack dynamics, herd mentality, predatory instinct, migratory tradition, territorial behavior, or communal survival structures inherited from their animal ancestry. Despite these influences, Beastkin possess full intellectual complexity and emotional depth comparable to other civilized peoples.

Many Beastkin societies maintain a close relationship with nature, wilderness survival, craftsmanship, hunting traditions, or tribal heritage, though some have integrated fully into large urban civilizations and multi-species political systems. Mortals and Fey alike frequently stereotype Beastkin as primitive or instinct-driven, though such assumptions vary greatly from one culture to another.
