He does not shout, haggle loudly or waste a blow. He remembers. A favor owed, a promise kept late, a gift that was never quite free: these are his coin, and he is a patient collector. He is courteous to the point of insult, and the courtesy is the warning. By the time he asks for what he is owed, he has usually spent weeks making sure you cannot refuse.
Under the calm is a hunter who trusts almost no one and long ago stopped expecting to be thanked. He hates cages, broken promises and gratitude that fades. Whether he wants only what is his, or something he has not named even to himself, he has never said. He waits. He is very good at it.
The story is a slow game of watching. Rope bridges, lookout towers and narrow ledges make every path visible from somewhere. The hunter takes a new contract and begins to stalk his quarry, while the stranger's questions begin to follow him. The player can side with the hunter, the hunted, or the questions, and learn that the most dangerous predator in the gorge is afraid of exactly one thing: being remembered for the wrong job.

The Ashen Accord is a sprawling criminal syndicate operating across the realm through hidden trade routes, secret networks, bribery, smuggling, extortion, and organized underground commerce. Unlike chaotic street gangs or localized crime families, the Accord functions as a highly coordinated shadow economy connecting thieves, corrupt officials, assassins, fences, black market traders, mercenaries, and illegal magical practitioners beneath the surface of civilized society.
The organization thrives in instability, conflict, corruption, and desperation, embedding itself within cities, ports, border towns, noble courts, and trade caravans alike. Their influence extends far beyond simple contraband dealing, encompassing illegal magical artifacts, forbidden substances, information brokering, slave trafficking, political blackmail, underground fighting rings, and covert assassination contracts.
Though feared throughout the realm, the Ashen Accord maintains a surprisingly structured internal system governed by profit, leverage, secrecy, and negotiated balance rather than outright chaos. Betrayal within the organization is punished brutally, while competence and usefulness are rewarded regardless of origin, species, or social standing.
The Accord rarely seeks open control over territory, preferring instead to quietly infiltrate existing systems until entire economies, officials, or criminal operations become dependent upon them. Many rulers publicly denounce the Ashen Accord while privately relying on its networks for information, deniable operations, or illicit trade.
To most citizens, the Accord exists somewhere between rumor and nightmare — unseen until someone suddenly owes them something.
Smuggler’s Cove, a rough coastal settlement consisting of weathered shacks, improvised docks, patched warehouses, and poorly constructed homes hidden along isolated shoreline cliffs and sea caves. Though insignificant compared to larger criminal organizations, the Undertow has begun carving out a dangerous reputation among coastal traders, fishermen, and black-market contacts willing to risk illegal cargo along open waters.
Still considered a fledgling operation by most established syndicates, the Undertow survives through desperation, adaptability, and willingness to take jobs larger factions consider too risky, unprofitable, or politically dangerous. With only a handful of seaworthy vessels and limited manpower, every shipment matters, and every failed run threatens the survival of the entire organization.
Unlike older criminal powers built on tradition or rigid hierarchy, the Undertow operates more like a loose brotherhood of smugglers, scavengers, sailors, and opportunists bound together by necessity and shared ambition. Their crews are rough, unpredictable, and often under-equipped, but highly motivated by the promise of freedom, profit, and eventual expansion beyond their tiny coastal beginnings.
Many underestimate the Undertow due to its size and lack of polish. Those who spend time around Smuggler’s Cove quickly learn that desperate people with nothing to lose can become extremely dangerous once they start believing they have something to build.

The Blackwake Union — known throughout the river city simply as Blackwake — is a rising criminal syndicate controlling much of the city’s hidden water-based trade and smuggling activity. While larger organizations like the Ashen Accord dominate overland routes and established black markets, Blackwake built its power through mastery of the rivers themselves: hidden canals, flooded tunnels, forgotten docks, marsh inlets, sewer outlets, and nighttime river traffic invisible to ordinary authorities.
Born from rivermen, smugglers, dock laborers, ferrymen, and abandoned undercity districts, Blackwake developed into a fiercely territorial organization deeply tied to the waterways surrounding the city. The rivers are not merely trade routes to them — they are identity, livelihood, protection, and power. Their members navigate currents, tides, flood channels, and hidden passages with unmatched skill, allowing them to move contraband, people, information, and stolen goods through routes larger syndicates struggle to control.
Unlike the polished professionalism of the Ashen Accord, Blackwake maintains a rougher, more localized culture built around loyalty, survival, and shared hardship. Many poorer river districts quietly tolerate or even support the syndicate due to the protection, coin, and opportunity it provides where the city government has failed.
Blackwake’s influence remains mostly regional for now, but tensions with the Ashen Accord continue to escalate as the Union tightens its grip on the waterways feeding the city. Increasingly, the Accord controls the roads, while Blackwake controls what flows beneath them.
Aerynthian
Aerynthians watch from high places, quiet as held breath and difficult to mistake once noticed. Sleek feathered bodies, hooked beaks, taloned hands, and long wing-fused arms give them an elegant severity, while their reflective eyes make darkness feel less like cover and more like an invitation to be judged. Their movements are so fluid and silent that even honest witnesses may wonder whether they saw a living being or merely the air deciding to have opinions.
They are shaped by perception, memory, and height. Aerynthians do not simply observe; they retain. A voice heard once, a face glimpsed in passing, a scent carried through a crowded room, a lie hidden in a pause — all of it may remain with them long after others forget. This makes them valuable, feared, and deeply inconvenient to anyone who was hoping their mistakes had died quietly.
Their culture prizes silence, leverage, oaths, and careful distance. They live apart or in scattered enclaves, dealing in truth more than comfort and secrets more than coin. They are not known for lying, but that rarely makes them reassuring; a truth delivered with half its feathers tucked away can still cut beautifully.
What makes them compelling is the tension between grace and calculation. They can arrive without sound, remember a face for years, and leave before anyone realizes what was taken from the room. Trusting one is dangerous, betraying one is worse, and flirting with one is probably educational if someone enjoys being remembered in uncomfortable detail.
